Compound Bow Setup Guide

Follow these steps:

  1. Install arrow rest.
  2. Approximately align arrow rest hole:
    • vertically with Berger holes, and
    • horizontally with centre of riser arrow shelf.
  3. Set-up bow in bow vise.
  4. Attach level to bow string.
  5. Level bow in bow vise.
  6. Nock an arrow.
  7. Attach level to nocked arrow.
  8. Level nocked arrow by changing nock position on bow string.
  9. If necessary, using nocked arrow as an additional guide, realign arrow rest hole:
    • vertically with Berger holes, and
    • horizontally with centre of riser arrow shelf.
  10. If necessary, re-level nocked arrow by adjusting nock position on bow string.
  11. Mark position of top of nock on bow string.
  12. Tie D-loop based on marked position of nock.
  13. Adjust bow poundage.
  14. Install limb stops if available.
  15. Adjust bow draw length.
  16. Time bow cams.
  17. Install sight.
  18. Adjust sight to middle of its vertical adjustment range.
  19. Install peep.
  20. At full draw, slide peep to approximately correct height.
  21. In bow press, fix peep rotation by adjusting bow string twist.
    • Note: minor rotation issues can be fixed by adjusting D-loop position; however, this should be used sparingly as the rotational torque applied to the string by the D-loop is not conducive to proper bow operation and subsequent arrow flight.
  22. At full draw, confirm peep height is correct.
  23. Mark position of centre of peep on bow string.
  24. Tie in peep.
  25. At full draw, confirm correct peep height and rotation, re-tie or fix peep rotation if necessary.
  26. At full draw, mark arrow shaft at end of riser arrow shelf.
  27. Cut arrows to length.
  28. Glue in arrow inserts.
  29. Fletch all arrows but one.
  30. Level sight along all three-axes.
  31. Install stabilisers.
  32. Install quiver.
  33. Adjust rear-stabiliser to naturally attain level bow at full draw.
  34. Bare shaft tune bow with one unfletched arrow.
  35. Sight-in bow sight.
  36. Check bow cam timing, re-time bow cams if necessary.
