Compound Bow Setup Guide
Follow these steps:
- Install arrow rest.
- Approximately align arrow rest hole:
- vertically with Berger holes, and
- horizontally with centre of riser arrow shelf.
- Set-up bow in bow vise.
- Attach level to bow string.
- Level bow in bow vise.
- Nock an arrow.
- Attach level to nocked arrow.
- Level nocked arrow by changing nock position on bow string.
- If necessary, using nocked arrow as an additional guide, realign arrow rest hole:
- vertically with Berger holes, and
- horizontally with centre of riser arrow shelf.
- If necessary, re-level nocked arrow by adjusting nock position on bow string.
- Mark position of top of nock on bow string.
- Tie D-loop based on marked position of nock.
- Adjust bow poundage.
- Install limb stops if available.
- Adjust bow draw length.
- Time bow cams.
- Install sight.
- Adjust sight to middle of its vertical adjustment range.
- Install peep.
- At full draw, slide peep to approximately correct height.
- In bow press, fix peep rotation by adjusting bow string twist.
- Note: minor rotation issues can be fixed by adjusting D-loop position; however, this should be used sparingly as the rotational torque applied to the string by the D-loop is not conducive to proper bow operation and subsequent arrow flight.
- At full draw, confirm peep height is correct.
- Mark position of centre of peep on bow string.
- Tie in peep.
- At full draw, confirm correct peep height and rotation, re-tie or fix peep rotation if necessary.
- At full draw, mark arrow shaft at end of riser arrow shelf.
- Cut arrows to length.
- Glue in arrow inserts.
- Fletch all arrows but one.
- Level sight along all three-axes.
- Install stabilisers.
- Install quiver.
- Adjust rear-stabiliser to naturally attain level bow at full draw.
- Bare shaft tune bow with one unfletched arrow.
- Sight-in bow sight.
- Check bow cam timing, re-time bow cams if necessary.
